What are wrinkle- relaxing injections?
Wrinkle relaxing injections are the most requested non-surgical anti-ageing treatment at Melissa Aesthetics Clinic. Most commonly known to patients as 'Botox' injections.

'Botox' is a brand name of botulinum toxin A which is a prescription only medication. The drug is a purified natural protein which works by blocking certain chemical signals from nerves, which cause muscles to contract. This causes temporary relaxation of the muscle and can be used for the treatment of lines and wrinkles caused by facial expression. The most popular areas to treat are, the number 11 lines between the eyebrows which are caused by frowning, the lines around the eyes caused by smiling and squinting (also knowns as crows feet) and the lines which run horizontally across the forehead when the eyebrows are raised. By relaxing these muscles we can temporarily reduce the appearance of these lines and wrinkles resulting in a more refreshed, youthful appearance. Botulinum toxin is a very safe, effective treatment not only used in cosmetic clinics but also for a number of medical conditions in the NHS.

THE PROCEDURE​
Botox is a prescription only medication therefore you will need to attend a consultation with a Registered Clinician such as a Doctor or a Independent Nurse Prescriber. Botox injections are a relatively quick treatment and take as little as 5 minutes to administer, with no downtime.

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
Unlike dermal filler, results are not instant. You may begin to see improvement to lines and wrinkles anywhere from day 4-7 with optimal results at two-three weeks.

HOW LONG DO THE EFFECTS LAST?
The effects of Botox are temporary and vary from patient to patient, but on average 3 - 5 months.

HOW OFTEN CAN I HAVE TREATMENT?
You must wait at least 12 weeks between treatments, Most patients attend clinic for treatment every 3-5 months.
